so yeah, surgery went well. i'm healing very quickly. so quickly that it surprises me.

i have several books that i'm looking forward to reading in the future. hopefully i can find enough time to actually get through them all! i recently got them from a local used book store. heres the list:

1. Biography of Ernest Hemingway
2. A Farewell to Arms
3. Biography of Michelangelo
4. A Clockwork Orange
5. Some story of a WWII vet (i don't have the title handy)

but yeah...haven't done much packing yet. i leave sunday, i am quite excited! which reminds me that i'm going to alex's wedding on saturday in lake jackson...i REALLY need to get on packing. as far as the majority of the summer goes, i am not entirely sure as to how often a computer will be available to me. but, hopefully i can update when the opportunity arises.

i got my grades back from this semester. i did pretty good. but there is obviously still room for improvement...there always is. but i'm working on maintaining a good GPR so i can graduate with high grades so i can have that on my transcript so i can potentially get in to a good grad school or so that i can have that on my records for employers to reference which could help me get a better job which would allow me more opportunities in terms of pay, benefits, and early retirement which would also allow me to support a happy family and put children through college and let me live the american dream and consider myself more accomplised by american standards (because that is what happiness is...right?) or i could just graduate with a mediocre GPR, move to mexico, and teach surf lessons for a living, while moving back every 5 years or so to work for a year or 2 so i can live comfortably in mexico. yeah, i've got a few options on the table.

but yeah, for those who don't know i'm officially a business management major. i hope to do something along the lines of HR (human resources). i wouldn't mind sitting and interviewing people for a living. plus, i think i have a knack for being able to read people and get to know their strengths and weaknesses quite quickly, not to mention a notably acute attention for detail. i have a few electives picked out that pertain to HR and will help me know what to expect in the field. i also have time to switch to a civil law track if i decide to take that route. that would be ultimately boring, but, could be quite an interesting way to go. i've been looking into some internships for next summer, i have quite a few options on the table. all the internships i applied for this summer, i got accepted, so it seems like i'm a decent 'interviewer'.

the rents said theres a good chance that i can have their record player, receiver, and speakers for the house next year. that'd be rad. now i'm looking into getting a polaroid camera. i've always liked having pictures instantly. plus it'd be a neat way to experiment with film.

my dad and i had an interesting conversation on the way back from my sister's graduation the other night. it was neat hearing him 'go off' on governmental procedures. he's seen a lot of the business aspect of the government first hand with his relatively new job for the city of houston. it's neat hearing him compare and contrast the ideals and tendencies of the corporate world versus the methodologies of the government. they are entirely different environments. it was also neat to hear him talk about the jobs and duties of contract estimators. i wouldn't mind getting into that business some day. i've also considered perhaps working with contractors in the future and maybe creating a contracting company that has the ability to expand horizontally. although it has been done, it seems potentially prosperous under the right management.

him and i agree entirely on many of the issues with the presidency too. the republican party is such an open book. it is always interesting to analyze the actions of a party in comparison to their election platform after their time in office. it is obvious that bush is all about helping the rich and the poor. paying off his friends and looking like a savior to the poor. but what happens to the middle class? it diminishes. what do most 3rd world countries lack? a middle class. now of course i'm not saying that the US is anywhere near a 3rd world country. but the possibilities are there. china is advancing like crazy. their economy is booming, not to mention their population. they have expanded their borders. their laborers work for next to nothing in comparison to US laborers. i'm not supporting communism either. i'm just saying that something has to change in the american government soon (as if that is not eternally obvious).

there is a common misconception in the government. a recent misconception at that. everyone believes that elections are 'crooked' now. they know that the presidency is bought and sold at will. well, that is not a new idea. elections have always been crooked and will continue to be. it is something that the US has been attempting to 'limit' since our inception. but i ask you: when will the people have the power?

i also can't wait until austin is cleaned up. i'm not talking about the 'odd' people that live there (although i consider them normal). i'm talking about the legislators. especially the legislators that are paid off. paid off by the insurance companies. so many trials would go differently. insurance rates in texas would change for the better. it seems like business owns the leaders of this country.

i also have issues with parties. it seems like the bipartisan system has become skewed. i personally don't think that having a partisan election is what our forefathers intended. i know that back in their time they did have parties (i.e. federalists and anti-federalists) but i'm not sure that they were even comparable to the parties of today. i can't believe how much money goes into the campaign funds today. i just wish that the common man could run for president. some 'joe schmoe' living north of dallas that knows what america needs. not someone from a rich family or someone that married rich (see LBJ). i'm talking a true american worker. one who is naturally intelligent and ethical. one who isn't worried about making sure that he has his name in history books. not someone who adjusts his platform in hopes of getting a huge campaign donation and sticks to it for the chance of reelection. but just someone who wants to ensure that we follow the constitution and that everyone is on a level playing field in terms of legal issues and foreign affairs. i'm a big dreamer too.

a friend of mine recently returned from iraq. he was telling me about how crooked the french were. of course, i know they are crooked, but his story was quite convincing. he said that during a routine inspection at a border crossing, US soldiers were going through parcels that were discovered in an abandoned cargo truck. they were lifting boxes of military food supplies that were labeled accordingly (in Arabic). upon lifting the boxes, they realized how unbelievably heavy they were. upon opening them, they found rocket launchers and mortars...with french writing on them. yet another contribution to iraq by the french for precious oil. which makes you wonder...who are our allies?

gosh, after reading this post i sound like i'm very down on the US. thats not entirely true. i love living here. i love being able to exercise the many freedoms that i admittedly take for granted. in fact, my good friend and co-conspirator, mark and i have discussed that we would promptly enlist in the case of a large conflict. i would fight for this country. in fact i'd die for it, but i can always dream that we could eliminate some imperfections before such a large scale predicament occurs.
